My Story

My name is Maha Syed, and I’m the founder of MovingwithMaha—the space where I empower at-home dance kings and queens to unleash their inner stars. Growing up, I got teased a lot for the way I moved when I danced. On top of that, there were moments in my life where my body wasn’t fully my own, and that made my body feel locked up. I hated dancing, and I felt no spirit in my dance. But let me tell you something: that didn't stop me. Deep down, I knew I was meant to shine, and nothing was going to take that away.

As the years went by, I became obsessed with the beauty of movement. Bollywood movies? I lived for them, watching legends like Katrina Kaif light up the screen. At my local hookah lounge, the belly dancers captivated me with their hypnotic hip shimmies. Then, as a teenager, Dancehall stole my heart—the confidence, the rhythm, the boldness. And, of course, pop queens like Britney Spears and Tate McRae—watching them on stage inspired me to move with attitude and flair. Meanwhile, I’d watch my friends—strippers and circus performers—spinning and twirling with raw power. I admired them from afar, craving that freedom.

But two years ago, I stopped being just a spectator. I stepped into a Zumba class at my local gym, and that’s where I met Nadia, a firecracker of an instructor with an attitude to match. Slowly but surely, I started rebuilding my connection with my body. Every day, I showed up. Every day, I danced in front of that mirror, brick by brick, bringing my confidence back.

Fast forward to 2024, and guess what? I’m still a bad dancer who loves to dance. I watch myself move every week, and I keep getting better. That’s the magic of it—I’m not perfect, and I don’t have to be. What I want is to share this journey and grow with a community of dancers—new and experienced—who just want fun, fabulous dance fitness.

Why do we have to be perfect? Why do we have to gawk at social media influencers with "perfect" bodies? Why idolize flawless dancers when we’re just learning how to move? Let’s dance together, get better, get fit, and embrace this as the journey it’s meant to be.

Movement is art. It’s life. It makes us healthier, stronger, and more alive. And when you blend it with fitness, it becomes this irresistible, addictive force. I’m here to share that with beautiful souls from all over the world who want to move their bodies, get fit, and feel fabulous doing it.
